Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church was established in 1994 with the merger of Thomasboro and McGee Presbyterian churches. These two congregations begin to meet together under the formation leadership of Rev. Chuck Kirby. The early years had us meeting in previous church facilities until they were sold and then we moved to the Fellowship Hall at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. These first years were exciting as we began a new ministry and in 1996, we moved into our new facility on Pleasant Grove Road. The facility hosted a large Fellowship Hall, fully equipped commercial kitchen, offices and of course, Sunday School rooms. We had a home to call our own but most exciting, we had a new minister, the Dr. Rev. William Jeff Pinkston. Dr. Pinkston (Jeff to all of us) came with a wife and 4 children, quadruplets! Talk about adding to your children's program! A time of spiritual growth began for our members and we were joined by new members from the community and surrounding areas. Then, in 1998, we were joined by another congregation, McQuay Memorial Presbyterian. This increase in our membership came because of the enthusiam and love that was shared as that church looked for a new home. As the years have gone by, we have continued to add to our membership out of the community and we have lost many of our senior members as they have passed on to be with the Lord. While there has been sadness at the lost, we continue to be blessed with new faces and their unique gifts. This has encouraged those of us who are here to step up and share our gifts and to live out the mission God has set before us. In 2005, we completed the building of the new sanctuary and added ballfields to our spacious grounds. The new sanctuary will seat approximately 175 people and has state of the art video/audio equipment. It is a testament to the goodness of God to provide us a place to minister to the community. The years flew by and in 2006, Dr. Pinkston was called to another church. The Congregation and the Session began a process to re-evaulate the mission that God had set before us. During this time we were pleased to have Don Wilson, a lay minister, lead us for 5 months until we called Dr. Rev. Warren Nance to be our Interim Minister. Dr. Nance led us through several indept studies to understand who we are and what we are about - and guess what! It is exactly what you would expect - to be followers of Jesus AND to share that with the world. The important lesson was that we must be proactive in God's call to us. That led to the next exciting event in our lives. We called Rev. Michael J. Koch in May of 2009. Pastor Mike comes to us with his wife and two children, Nikolas and Carina. His passion is family based and intergenerational ministries and becoming a missional church. He is leading and walking with us into our new future and we are excited. How shall the next chapter end? Only God knows but we do know that it includes others. Are you one of those? We hope so. Come and join us at Worship Service on Sundays at 10:00 a.m., Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. (classes for all ages) or Wednesday nights at 6:30 for Bible Study and Children's Programs. Every person shapes our church into a better ministry, adding their unique gift and call to our expanding ministry. We consider ourselves ONE FAMILY with room for YOU. |
